Recording - Herts & Middx Butterfly Conservation

Recording

We can only conserve butterflies and their habitats if we know where and how many there are.
To do this we have several different ways in which you can help to record butterflies. They vary from formal to casual but any that you can help with will be valuable.

All these records go to Andrew Wood (details on Committee page) the Branch Records Collator who maintains a database for all butterfly records in Hertfordshire and Middlesex.

We use this data to help us and other organisations identify important sites and try to influence conservation measures to benefit butterflies.

Our data is shared with:

Each year we publish a full colour report on the butterflies in the previous year. This is based on over 25000 records we receive each year. This lets us give recorders and members feedback on the current situation. It is also sent to many other conservation organisations and local authorities.
