Macro-moths (larger moths) ~ Part 5 Part 5 includes a selection of moth images from the following super families: Notodontidae and Erebidae Links to the different families on this page....
Notes to accompany image: In my last few days in Wales, I found a Vapourer larva whilst looking
for pyrocantha mines. I brought it back to Crouch End and it pupated on
18.09.07. A female emerged on 27.09.07 and it was not released until 29.09.07, because the weather was so cold and windy. We took it
to Alexandra Park as it was warm and sunny. When we arrived, the sun had
gone in and nothing happened for the first 10 minutes, so we moved
further into the park. The sun came out again as we left the moth on
the grass near sallows, elms, and oaks. After five minutes, a male Vapourer
appeared and then two more. It took a few minutes for the first male to
find the female, even though they were in the box together! We left the
female on her cocoon in a tree crevice - Helen Bantock
